Rebound damping

Before we can adjust anything we have to know which adjusters do what. On the forks the rebound adjusters are the small brass screws usually on top and the compression adjuster sit near the bottom of the fork. At the rear the rebound adjuster is located near one of the mounting points and the compression is a knob on the remote reservoir.
To find out which adjuster does what we turn them all fully out. Then feel how easily you van move the bike up and down. Turn one of the adjusters fully in and see how the suspension reacts... if it compresses just as easily as before but extends back very slowly you've got yourself a rebound adjuster. If it's harder to push the bike down but it springs back fast then you've hit upon a compression adjuster. Befory you try the next adjust be sure to turn the previous one back out again.

Now that we now what adjuster gives does what we're going to find a bumpy road with little traffic. Be carefull because we turned all the adjusters fully out which means your bike lacks any damping and is very unstable.

Rebound damping is very important as it steadies your bike or keeps it stable under all circumstances if adjusted properly.
When going over a bump without any rebound damping the bike will keep moving up and down. If you've got the rebound turned fully in your suspension will feel dead and mabe like you have no suspension at all.

What we're looking for is the point where the suspension goes from lively to dead. First do the forks as you've got more feeling in your hands/arms than in your butt. Start riding up and down the road and give it a click of rebound extra untill you feel the front feeling dead and unresponsive. Then turn the rebound a click back out.
You want the suspension to be a bit on the lively side because if you don't the suspension will have trouble keeping up at high speeds.

Now go trough the same procedure again but then putting all your concentation on the back untill you found the "sweet spot".

So rebound: start fully out, find setting where lively goes dead and move back a few clicks.

Here's somebody desperately trying to get to his rebound adjuster, hampered by his beloved superbike bars.
