Front Wheel

The front wheel originally came from a GSXR750J, finished in a white enamel coating. Having seen a set of polished wheels, I decided that this was the way that I wanted mine finished.

If you are planning on doing the same to your wheels - BEWARE!! this really is not for the faint-hearted. First off I had to strip the wheel, which included removing the brake disks and wheel bearings. The next thing to do was to remove the paint finish, so out came the chemicals. I used Nitromors Automotive Paint & Lacquer remover, which I had used on wheels previously with great success. The paint on the rims was easily removed, but the center was a different story.

As the wheel center has a cast finish, the Nitromors just wasn't lifting the paint, so I decided that the best thing would be to use very fine sand-blasting equipment - very messy when doing this at home!! Still it did remove all the paint. Out came the polishing mops and a quick finish with some liming powder and VOILA! I'm very pleased with the result. It sounds fairly quick, but there's over 2 months worth of evenings and weekends gone into polishing the wheel.

New bearings were fitted. Followed by a new pair of wavy brake disks from Trade Direct held in place with a set of gold titanium disk bolts from Probolt.

All that's left to do to the front wheel now is fit some sticky rubber.
